What's in SolarBoss?
SolarBoss is a wall mounted case with a Linux processor and interfaces inside. Like a WiFi router or a TV set-top box, it contains all the circuitry to talk to WiFi, the Internet, your computer, tablet and smartphone.
Two cables connect SolarBoss to your solar battery and a clip to go around the output of your inverter. The two connections allow SolarBoss to know all about your battery and your use of power. Over time, a picture of your power input and output is built up so that the device can accurately determine when to switch loads on and off. It can also give you a lot of information about your use of power, the efficiency of your appliance and the condition of your system and batteries. It is a complete management system.
SolarBoss works best when you assess how and where you use your power. Some things run for short periods, like coffee machines, microwaves, toasters, kettles and hair dryers. Some for longer. like washing machines, dishwashers, pool pumps and air conditioning.
Some things can run 'whenever', others you want to run 'now'. The best things for SolarBoss to control are the 'whenever' ones because they can be paused while the 'now' things run. The pool pump and even the air con can pause for the few moments it takes for the kettle to boil.
